| What is vomiting? Vomiting is the forceful expulsion of stomach contents through the mouth.
What is the difference between vomiting and regurgitation? In regurgitation, the food that is expelled comes from the mouth or esophagus, versus the stomach. Vomiting involves the forceful contraction of stomach muscles; regurgitation does not. Both vomiting and regurgitation can occur right after eating or drinking, or up to several hours later.
